With so many dating websites and dating communities to join, and with the widespread use of social media such as Facebook, women are indeed exposed to a global population of eligible men.
Unfortunately, while there are genuine ones, there are many more who are scammers. It is not only women falling for the tricks but men too.
Women are often tricked by the sweet words of these "men" (we can't even see if they are men or not) while men are often tricked because of the offer of sex by these so-called "ladies".
It is inevitable you will meet some of these people. Be alert and stay away from them once you detect enough clues that they are tricksters.
